87 of Sigel, Illinois, passed away at 6:25 P.M., Thursday, November 24, 2011, in the St. Anthony Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Bernice was born June 13, 1924 in Sigel, Illinois, the daughter of Ben and Kate ( Schutte ) Schumacher. She was a member of the St. Michael, The Archangel Church of Sigel, she was a former employee of the Illinois Glove Company of Effingham, Ill., and Snower's Garment Factory, of Teutopolis, Ill. Bernice married Donald C. Fearday, June 24, 1944, in Sigel, Illinois, and Mr. Fearday passed away October 31, 1983. She later married Paul Wilkens, May 24, 1991, and he passed away November 30, 1998. Mrs. Wilkens leaves one son, William B. Fearday and wife Kathleen of Sigel Ill; one daughter, Nancy Fearday, of Effingham, Ill; one step-daughter, Judith Luchtefeld and husband Phil of Effingham, Ill; two brothers, Richard Schumacher and wife Evelyn of Clinton, Maryland, John Schumacher and wife Pat of Sigel, Ill; three sisters, Anna Probst of Colorado, Martha Niemerg of Dieterich, Ill., and Theresa Walk of Neoga, Ill. Three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one step great granddaughter. Mrs. Wilkens was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harold Schumacher and her twin brother Bernard Schumacher; two sisters, Grace Lamkin and Katie Gadel. Memorials may be made to the St. Michael School of Sigel, Illinois. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 28, 2011, in the St. Michael, The Archangel Church of Sigel, with the Rev. Fr. Robert DeGrand of Sigel, and Sr. Pat Thies of Effingham, Ill., officiating. A Parish Wake service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, November 27, 2011, in the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, with the Rev. Fr. Robert DeGrand and Sr. Pat Thies, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Sunday, November 27, 2011, at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery in Sigel, IL.
