64, of Tuscola,IL formerly of Windsor, IL passed away at 5:35 p.m., January 1, 2013 at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL. Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, IL with the Rev. Randy Richey of Scottsville, KY officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday until Service time. Burial will be held at a later date. Darrell was born September 13, 1948, the son of Charles and Betty (Hatten) Latch. He married Susan Reddish on December 28, 1975 at Gaskill United Methodist Church where he was a member. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, his children, Christine Latch of Wilmington Island, GA; Melissa Showalter (Andy) of Mattoon, IL; Tammy Latch of Mattoon, IL; Darrell Charles Latch of Yulee, FL; Joey Latch of Tuscola, IL; his six grandchildren Bailie, Drew, Daniel (Andrea), Macy, Marissa, Joey; Great grandchild due in July; Parents, Charles and Betty Latch of rural Windsor, IL; Two brothers, Terry Latch (Peggy) of rural Stewardson, IL and Charles Latch (Sherry) of Mattoon, IL; Three sisters, Sandra Hundley (Earl) of Logan, UT, Darlette Brasel (Denton) of Kinmundy, IL, and Paulette Ballinger (Dave) of Strasburg, IL. Darrell was a 1966 graduate from Windsor High School. He furthered his education and earned an Associates Degree in Agriculture from Wabash Valley College in, Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Southern Illinois University in, Master of Arts from Scarritt College, Master of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt University, and he earned his Doctorate in Ministry at Vanderbilt University. He was the owner of SonLight Power Gym. He was one of the lead promoters of Power lifting across the United States. During his thirty years of Power lifting he earned thirteen world championships, thirty-four National titles, and several World Records; he was known for being steroid-free his entire career. He also played and recorded music. In 1995 he made a video and received the Golden Lion Award for his music. He spent 7 years researching and writing a book about the Cherokee Trail of tears.
