HELEN IRENE (TANNER) HUGHES

Helen Irene Hughes, 99, peacefully passed away on Friday August 11, 2023 in the Cumberland Rehab & Health Care Center in Greenup, Illinois.  She was born August 24, 1923 in Cumberland County the daughter of Edward and Myrtle (Peterson) Tanner.   She Married Arrie Carson Edwards September 20, 1945 in Toledo, Illinois, Mr. Edwards passed away September 16, 1956.  She then married George W. Hughes in 1960 in Sullivan, Illinois Mr. Hughes passed away in November of 1980. Helen worked as a Housekeeper for Cumberland Housing Authority for over twenty years she also was a seamstress and Homemaker.  She is survived by her children, James Carson Edwards of Toledo, Illinois, Ronnie Edwards (Elaine) of Neoga, Illinois and Earlene Louise Carlen (David) of Decatur, Illinois; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren.  Mrs Hughes was preceded in death by parents; Husbands, A. Carson Edwards and George W. Hughes; brother, Charles Tanner; sisters, Oma M. James and Ethel Louis Easton; and one grandson. 

Memorials are suggested to Camp New Hope.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM,  Wednesday August 16, 2023 in the Swengel - O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois.  Visitation will be Tuesday August 15, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM also in the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Janesvill Cemetery in Janesville,  Illinois.
