JESSIE M. WALLACE

75, of Mattoon, Illinois, passed away at 2:20 A.M., Thursday, January 31, 2013, in her residence. Jessie was born February 21, 1937, in Cumberland County, Illinois, the daughter of Merle and Juanita Fern ( Brown ) Green. She graduated from the Neoga High School in 1954, and was a former employee of the General Electric Co. of Mattoon. Jessie was also employed by the State Of Illinois in the Unemployment department, and a counselor for the prisons,, retiring from the State of Illinois. Jessie married Joseph L. Wallace, August 31, 1958, in Trilla, Illinois. Jessie and her husband Joseph operated the J & J meat market in Mattoon, Illinois for ten years and later it was known as the Wallace Brothers Meat Market. She was a member of the Marshall Avenue Christian Church of Mattoon, and a fifty year member of the Toledo Eastern Star Chapter # 231 of Toledo, Illinois. Jessie was an avid crafter, painter, seamstress and baker. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, taking in most of the country. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Mrs. Wallace leaves her husband, Joseph L. Wallace of Mattoon, IL; two sons, Robert " Bob " Wallace and wife Wanda of Trilla, IL and Sam Wallace and wife Tami of Toledo, IL; two daughters, Lorinda Procell and husband Andy of Mattoon, IL and Patricia Thompson and husband Scott of Trilla, IL; one brother, Lawrence E. " Bud " Green and wife Barbara of Trilla, IL; one sister, Janet Tinch of Trilla, IL; eight grandchildren, Kari, Annie, Robin and Jessica Wallace, Christopher Wallace and Nick Poffinbarger, Samantha English and J.D. Thompson; five step grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Marilyn Doughty and Judy Williams. Memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice - 1004 Health Center Dr., Mattoon, IL 61938. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A. M., Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, with the Rev. Rachel Doolin of Mattoon, officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Funeral Home.
