87, of Mattoon, Illinois passed away at 10:58 AM, Monday June 3, 2019 in the Copper Creek Cottages of Mattoon. Joseph was born October 13, 1931, in Mattoon, the son of Samuel C. and Pearl L. (Tatman) Wallace. Joe played football for the Mattoon Green Wave in his high school years, he then joined the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He married Jessie M. Green August 31, 1958 in Trilla she passed away January 31, 2013. Mr. Wallace was the owner/operator of J&J Meat Market later known as Wallace Brothers Meat Market in Mattoon. Joe later retired from Anemet Electrical in Mattoon after 15 years.
Joseph is survived by his sons Robert "Bob" Wallace (Wanda) of rural Trilla and Sam Wallace (Tami) of Toledo; daughters, Lorinda Procell (Andy) of Mattoon and Patricia Thompson (Scott) of Trilla; eight grandchildren, Kari, Annie, Robin and Christopher Wallace, Jessica Hiller, Nick Poffinbarger, Samantha English and J.D. Thompson; five step grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; sister in law, Dorothy Wallace of Mattoon. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jessie Wallace; two brothers, Tom and George Wallace and one sister Nellie Glasscock.
Memorials are suggested to the Janesville Cemetery Association or Coles County Animal Shelter.
A celebration of Joseph's life will be held at 2:30 PM, Friday, June 7, 2019 in the Swengel - O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga with Pastor Adam McReynolds officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Janesville Cemetery in Janesville, Illinois.
