MARY ANN MENTZER

59, of Lancaster, PA, formerly of Decatur, IL, passed away Thursday morning, September 27, 2012, at the Essa Flory Hospice Center following a four-month illness. She was born in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Dean and Jeanette ( Handley ) McAllister. Mary Ann married Leon R. Mentzer and together they celebrated their 31st anniversary on June 26, 2012. Leon and Mary Ann moved to Lancaster, PA, in October 2011. Mary Ann graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1974 with a degree in computer science, and she worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue in Harrisburg. She attended the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Lancaster and was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church of Decatur, IL, where she was a 14-year member of the bell choir. Mary and Leon were cofounders of christianstoryteller.com, in 2004. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and traveling, especially on cruises, while Leon held, " Seminars on the Water ". Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband Leon; her twin sons, Justin E. Mentzer and wife, Leslie of Maroa, IL and Joshua A, Mentzer of Decatur, IL, her bassets, Cassie and Maddie, and her brothers; James Handley of Chicago, IL and Robert, and wife Barbara McAllister of Windsor, IL. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, October 4, 2012, in the Pilgrim Lutheran Church - 2155 N. Oakland Ave., Decatur, IL, with the Rev. William K. Abbott and the Rev. Brock Abbott of Decatur, IL, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the Church.
