OTIS "GENE" E. BLACKBURN

Age 89 of rural Neoga, IL passed away at 6:46 pm, May 24, 2021.  He was born April 29, 1932 in Augusta, Georgia the son of Otis W. Blackburn and Evelyn (Holland) Blackburn. He was a graduate of the Georgia Military Academy and joined the U.S. Navy with an Honorable discharge in 1955.  He married Sara “Sally” on February 27, 1955 and were married for almost 63 years. Mr Blackburn worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft as a Flight Test Section Chief for 32 years. Gene was active in his church. He also was the former Musical Director of the Duffy’s Playhouse and founding member of the “Sharps” band playing the trumpet. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating. 
Mr. Blackburn leaves one son, Randy Blackburn (Kim) of Neoga, IL; two granddaughters, Heather (Nick) Przybyla of Lexington Park, MD and Allyssa Blackburn (Vince Brown) of Leonardtown, MD; four great-grandchildren, Shyloh and Skyler Przybyla and Liam and Lochland Brown. Mr. Blackburn was preceded in death by his wife, Sara “Sally” Blackburn, two brothers, Charles “Lindy” Blackburn and McKinley “Lee” Blackburn. 
Memorials may be made to the “Children’s Ministries” at the Grace United Methodist Church of Neoga, Illinois.
As per Mr Blackburn’s wishes Cremation Rites were accorded and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday June 12, 2021 in the Grace United Methodist Church in Neoga, Illinois with pastor Rob Dillingham officiating. Following the Memorial Service a Military Service will be conducted by the Neoga American Legion Post 458..
