RICHARD I. METTENDORF

77 of Sigel, Illinois, passed away at 2:09 A. M., Saturday, April 21, 2012, in his residence. Richard was born August 9, 1934, in Cumberland County, Illinois, the son of L. Joseph and Nellie ( Walk ) Mettendorf. He was a member of the St. Michael, The Archangel Church of Sigel, IL and a third degree life member of the Knights of Columbus of Teutopolis, IL. Richard married Clara Holkenbrink August 9, 1958, in Sigel, Illinois. He retired from the Fedders Corporation and Stevens Industries, both of Effingham, Illinois. Richard leaves his wife Clara Mettendorf of Sigel, IL; one son, Daniel R. Mettendorf and wife Kim of rural Stewardson, IL; one daughter, Patricia Struthers and husband Jeffry of Sigel, IL; five grandchildren, Kiley and Haley Mettendorf of Stewardson, IL, Erica Jansen of Neoga, IL, Sierra Struthers and Dakota Struthers both of Sigel, IL; one great granddaughter, Calisha Jansen and one great grandson, Jayden McNeal both of Neoga, IL; Mr. Mettendorf was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Louis and Morris Mettendorf; one sister, Marjorie Higgenbotham. Memorials may be made to Donor's Choice. A Mass of A Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A. M., Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in the St. Michael, The Archangel Church of Sigel, Illinois, with the Rev. Fr. Robert DeGrand of Sigel, and Sr. Pat Thies of Effingham, officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P. M., Monday, April 23, 2012, in the Swengel - O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, IL, with a Wake Service held at 7:00 P. M., Monday at the funeral home.
