RUTH EILEEN (BRIDGES) MCMECHAN

Ruth Eileen McMechan 94, of Neoga, Illinois passed away at 11:06 a.m. Tuesday February 20, 2024 in the HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.  She was born September 1, 1929 in Shelby County, Illinois the daughter of Roy T. and Josie (Osborn) Bridges.  She was married to Richard Douglas August 24, 1946 in Oakland California. She later married Bob McMechan December 17, 1976 in Shelby County, Illinois Mr. McMechan passed away December 2, 1979.  Ruth was a retired homemaker and a private Care Giver.  She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Neoga, Illinois.  Ruth loved the outdoors, watching birds, working with flowers, spending time with family and friends and cooking "Mackie Noodles" for the grandkids.   She is survived by her son, William "Bill" Douglas (Shirley) of Neoga, Illinois; daughter, Sue Romack (Norm) of Neoga, Illinois; grandchildren, Bill Douglas, Jr. Of Charleston, Illinois, Christie Stuff of Neoga, Illinois, Jodi Welch of Bloomington, Illinois, Jay Romack (Leslie) of Neoga, Illinois, Paul Romack (special friend, Misty) of Neoga, Illinois and Annie Jones (Harley) of Aurora, Illinois; thirteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren.  Ruth preceded in death by, her parents; husbands, Richard Douglas and Bob McMechan; daughter, Ina Jo Douglas; brothers, Don Bridges and Bob Bridges; sister, Helen Standerfer and great great granddaughter, Paisley.
Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Foundation in memory of Ina Jo Douglas or Free Methodist Church in Neoga, Illinois.
As per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded and a visitation/celebration of life will be held from at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday February 27,  2024 in the Swengel - O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois.  A private family committal service will be held at a later date.
