N. Rosalie Shadow, 89 of Mattoon, Illinois, passed away Wednesday March 11, 2026 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois. She was born December 9, 1936 in Windsor, Illinois to Montelle "Nip" and Helen Nohren.
She devoted much of her life to being a loving stay-at-home mother to her 5 children, creating a home filled with care, warmth, and dedication to her family. She worked at Kern’s factory, but one of her greatest talents was her gift for sewing. She was a talented seamstress who spent countless hours making beautiful quilts. Her quilts became well known among friends and family, and she found great joy in giving them away to the people she loved.
She was also a devoted sports fan who never missed a game cheering on the Illinois Fighting Illini Men’s Basketball and faithfully rooting for the Chicago Cubs. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her, but the memories she created and the quilts she lovingly made will continue to bring comfort for years to come.
Rosalie is survived by her brother; Monty (Jolene) Nohren.
She married Max Gilbert June 9, 1957 and together had 5 children; Tracie (Gary) Bryant, Darrell (Molly) Gilbert , Vickie (Mike) Fassold, Peggy (Gary) Reynolds, and Darren (Jodi) Gilbert. Max passed June 27, 1993. She married David Shadow on March 13, 1999. She has three step children Lori Snyder, Bryan Shadow and Dawn Shadow. She is the proud grandmother of Jennifer, Neal, Kyndall, Andrea, Emily, Corie, Katie, Jake, Taylor, Luke, Ella, and Andrea, great-grandmother of 19, and great-great-grandmother of 6. She was proceeded in death by her parents, brother David, first husband Max, stepdaughter Dawn and great-great-granddaughter Stella.
