SAMUEL E. " SAM " MARTIN

78, of Mattoon, Illinois, passed away at 12:12 A.M.,Thursday, January 24, 2013, in his residence. Sam was born November 19, 1934, in Moultrie County, Illinois, the son John and Katharine ( Cheever ) Martin. He married Carolyn Matthews, May 19, 1973, in Mattoon, Illinois. He was a member and an Elder, of the Buck Grove Community Church in Coles County, Illinois. Sam was retired from the Eastern Illinois University of Charleston and the Mattoon Public Library of Mattoon. Sam served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Martin leaves his wife, Carolyn Martin of Mattoon, IL; four brothers, John Martin and wife Sandra of Kansas City, MO, Allen Martin and wife Margaret of Franklin, VA, Tom Martin and wife Pam of Shelbyville, IL and Christopher Martin of San Francisco, CA; special nephew, Jacob Matthews of Mattoon, IL; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, Melinda Matthews. Memorials may be made to the Buck Grove Community Church 2377 N. Co. Rd., 650 E., Mattoon, IL 61938. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 28, 2013, in the Buck Grove Community Church, with the Rev. Adam Roseboom of Mattoon, Illinois, officiating. The visitation will be held one hour before the services in the Church.
