Susan K. Hayton, 79, of Neoga, Illinois, passed away at 11:35 PM, Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, Illinois. She was born September 18, 1945, in Fostoria, Ohio, the daughter of Francis and Dorothy (Diehl) Harmeson. Susan married Bernard Quentin Hayton, Jr., August 1967, in Hoopeston, Illinois. Mr. Hayton passed away December 27, 2023. Mrs. Hayton was a teacher and she held a Bachelors degree from Illinois State University and a Masters Degree in Education from Indiana University. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Neoga, Illinois. She played for the Illinois State University Basketball and Tennis Teams. Susan was a Field Ambassador for the Field Museum of Chicago. Her Fifty State Rock Club was one of her proudest professional accomplishments.
Susan is survived by her son, Ray Hayton (fiancé Christine Scanlon) of Kentucky; daughter, Kathie Mayer (Mark) of Frankfort, Illinois; grandson, Quentin of Frankfort, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Quentin Hayton, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday March 7, 2025, in the Swengel - O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Neoga Memorial Cemetery.
