Wayne Allen Monroe 74, of Neoga, Illinois, passed away at 1:39 p.m. Wednesday February 7, 2024 in the Mattoon Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Mattoon, Illinois. He was born March 21, 1949 in Coles County, Illinois the son of Lionel Allen and Geneva Emma (Zike) Monroe. Wayne married Sharon Cross December 29, 1968 in Neoga, Illinois. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving from 1969 to 1970 in the United States Army. Mr. Monroe worked as a mechanic for several area car dealerships, he owned the 76 Gas Station in Neoga, Illinois from 1973 until 1976, he worked at Trailmobile Trailers in Charleston from 1983 until 1996, and then at Neoga Community School Unit District from 1996 through retirement as a Bus Mechanic and finally a Transportation Supervisor. Wayne loved playing guitar, was a avid Nascar fan, classic cars, gun collecting and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He could also be seen first thing in the morning at the Depot Truck Stop in Neoga sometimes making the first pot of coffee! Wayne is survived by his wife, Sharon Monroe of Neoga, Illinois; children, Jonathan Monroe (Carey) of Millington, Michigan, Amanda Estes (Mike) of Mattoon, Illinois and Timothy Monroe (Janice) of Neoga, Illinois; grandchildren, Zachery Monroe (fiancé Brittney (Benjamin), Alyssa (Estes) Gullion (Treighton), Morgan Monroe, Ace Monroe, Tyler Estes, Andrew Monroe, Ella Monroe, Jessica Wernsing and Jaquelyn Wernsing; great grandchild, Maevelyn Monroe; brother, Lowell Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Monroe and great grandson Jagger Gullion.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 12, 2024 in the Swengel - O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will be held Monday February 12, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until service time also at the funeral home.
